DESCRIPTION

As part of UC Davis commitment to hire leading research faculty with a strong commitment to teaching, research and service that will promote the success of historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities and address the needs of our increasingly diverse state and student population, the College of Engineering announces an Assistant rank tenure-track professor position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Applications are encouraged from candidates with a strong background in any current or emerging area that will fit within our department s disciplinary focus and depth of expertise in computational/theoretical sciences and deep/machine learning and AI, including but not limited to:

*biomedical imaging and Biophotonics
*medical decision making
*personalized medicine
*predictive modeling
*robotics and image guided interventions
*radiomics
*quantitative imaging
*computer-aided medical diagnosis
*synthetic biology
*immunoengineering

As one of the country s leading R1 research universities, UC Davis seeks candidates with exceptional potential for and record of research, teaching and inclusive excellence. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in higher education.

Minimum Qualifications
* A Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering (e.g. Biomedical, Electrical and Computer, Computer Science), Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Bioinformatics, and/or other related fields, is required and must have been awarded by the date of hire.

Additional Qualifications
We desire applicants who have identified strengths and experiences in the following areas:
* Excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the potential to attract extramural funding.
* Evidence of commitment to or strong potential for commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion for historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities, and how this commitment integrates with teaching, research, and service.
* Commitment to excellence in teaching. Must demonstrate potential or evidence of ability to perform well at both graduate and undergraduate levels and to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses or seminars.

Appointment will be as an academic year (9-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor. Applicants must have earned a PhD or equivalent in Engineering (e.g. Biomedical, Electrical and Computer, Computer Science), Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Bioinformatics, or other related discipline awarded by time of hire. Participation in department, college, and university service as a member of UC Davis Division of the Academic Senate is an expectation under our faculty shared governance model.

We desire candidates who demonstrate understanding of issues affecting under-served populations such as (but not limited to) women, underrepresented minorities, individuals self-identifying as LGBTQIA+, veterans, individuals with disabilities, economically disadvantaged groups, first-generation students, undocumented students, or students with any intersections in between.
Successful candidates will help advance UC Davis strategic goal of improving access and building an inclusive community for all marginalized populations.
A successful candidate also will have an accomplished record (calibrated to career stage) of teaching, research, or service activities addressing the needs of underrepresented minorities, and a clearly articulated vision of how their work at UC Davis will continue to contribute to the University s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population.
