Why Live & Work in Parnassus & Mission Bay — A Physician’s
Perspective Living in Parnassus or Mission Bay means being at the
heart of one of the most dynamic medical communities in the
country. Whether you're walking to rounds at UCSF or collaborating
on research across disciplines, these neighborhoods offer more than
just proximity — they offer purpose. Parnassus has a quiet,
residential feel. It’s tucked into the hills near Golden Gate Park,
with leafy streets, old Victorians, and a sense of calm that’s rare
in a city. Mission Bay is sleek and modern, built for innovation.
It’s where medicine meets biotech, and where new ideas get tested,
scaled, and launched. But life here isn’t just about work. You’re
surrounded by culture — museums, music, food from every corner of
the world. You can finish a long shift and be at the symphony or a
street food festival within the hour. You can walk through
eucalyptus forests, kayak along the bay, or grab dim sum with
colleagues before heading home. Transit is easy. Muni, Caltrain,
BART — it’s all connected. Whether you’re commuting, catching a
flight, or just heading across town, you’re covered. And most
importantly, there’s a sense of community. You’re not just another
physician in a big city. You’re part of something — a network of
people who care deeply about their work, their patients, and each
other. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined
by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 The minimum base
salary range for this position is $154,700-$405,900 This position
includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which
provides for eligibility for additional compensation. Salary and
bonus are dependent upon rank and production ranging from $371,000
to $650.000. About UC San Francisco As a University employee, you
