Job Description:
The Medical Assistant works with the medical services staff to
assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The
Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team
composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers
educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income,
non-English speaking population. CommuniCare Health Centers is a
Federally Qualified Health Center providing comprehensive
patient-centered primary care services including medical, dental,
substance abuse treatment, behavioral health and outreach services
to low income, multi-ethnic, uninsured and underinsured
populations.SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week (some evenings required).
Primary work site at Davis Community Clinic. Travel to other sites

criminal justice system.RESPONSIBILITIES:The following reflects
management's definition of essential functions for this job, but
does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may
assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any
time with reasonable accommodation.* Under clinician supervision,
provide initial patient intake including medical history, financial
screening, vital signs, and form completion for infants,
adolescents, and adults of all ages. Provide services in an
age-appropriate manner with attention to the needs of infants,
teens and adults with physical impairments.* Perform medical
patient assisting work/measurements including but not limited to
height, weight, head circumference, temperature, pulse, respiratory
rate, and blood pressure. Perform vision and hearing screening.
Complete medical chart documentation, lab work, referrals, and all
other aspects of patient care, as required. * Assist clinicians
with EKG's, ear lavage, applying/removing bandages, sutures,
splints, slings and casts, injections, PPD skin tests, breathing
treatments, pulse oximetry and other medical procedures, as
required.* Perform phlebotomy, urine collection, and basic waived
laboratory tests and assist with lab duties.* Provide one-to-one
patient education as directed by the clinician.* Assist Clinic
Manager or Site Coordinator with room set-up, medical visits,
patient interviews, referrals and all other aspects of patient care
as required. May be asked to call clients to schedule/remind about
appointments.* Provide translation for non-English speaking clients
as needed.* Maintain clinic logs, clean and stock patient care
areas and work stations as required; may also assist with inventory
and ordering medical supplies.* Attend monthly meetings, in-service
and other trainings.* Enter patient data in the computer to certify
patient is in specific programs. * Coordinates with the Training
and Volunteer Manager to meet volunteer needs of the program.
Engages volunteers and/or students/residents to meet program needs;
may include duties such as interviewing, selecting, supervising,
training, and managing performance. Provides direct and timely
performance and behavior feedback as necessary for volunteers
and/or students/residents.* Assist with other duties as
assigned.QualificationsEducation and Experience: Completion of
Medical Assistant (MA) training program required. Phlebotomy
certification preferred. One year of MA work experience in an
outpatient setting or health clinic preferred and/or demonstrated
commitment to low income populations. Current CPR certification
required.Special Skills/Equipment: Bilingual Spanish/English;
Punjabi/English; Urdu/English or Russian/English required. Perform
phlebotomy and basic laboratory duties. Demonstrate the skills to
provide age appropriate care to the clients of the clinic.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development
over the life span and possess the ability to interpret information
relative to the patients age related needs. Must provide proof of
current driver's license and auto insurance.Expectations: Regular
attendance and punctuality is necessary to meet needs of position.
Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team and to deal
effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational
levels and with external customers/patients. Must have a commitment
to excellence and high standards. Must demonstrate proficient
written and oral skills, strong organizational, problem-solving and
analytical skills. Must have ability to manage priorities and
workflow. Required to have versatility, flexibility and willingness
to work with changing priorities with enthusiasm and demonstrate
acute attention to detail. Expected to have strong interpersonal
skills and the ability to understand and follow written/verbal
instructions. Able to work independently with little or no
supervision.Physical Requirements and Work Environment: *The
physical demands described here are representative of those that
must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential
functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to

functions.Requires a moderate to high level of mobility, dexterity,
and flexibility in order to perform essential functions. Requires
close vision and ability to see colors, ability to bend/move arms
with sufficient range of motion to complete patient-related
assessments and type chart notes; hearing required for patient
assessments and ability to lift 25 lbs (may need to assist patients
onto exam table). Prolonged standing, regular walking and
occasional sitting required. Ability to bend, kneel, lift and twist
as needed. Work is performed in a typical clinic environment with
moderate equipment noise. Occasional travel to other clinics and
locations may be required.SALARY/BENEFITS *:Compensation depends on
