ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
Deliver commercial success through generation of commercial sales, market share growth and Intellectual Property in accordance with the business strategy defined by the AMPA Breeding Director or Breeding Coordinator, through execution of an efficient breeding program.

Develop awareness of market context and align program strategy and technical direction accordingly. Develop an expert understanding of customers, crop knowledge, germplasm and breeding methods to deliver a balanced commercial portfolio of products for assigned markets.

Execute proper breeding methodologies and implement the best technologies to create an efficient line development program, including efficient use of marker assisted breeding and genomic selection tools. Ensure the provision of uniform and stable basic seed lots of inbred lines that have met the threshold of being able to produce the hybrid consistently and cost effectively.

Effective utilization of internal breeding database for genomic and pedigree information, as well as use of analytical tools for hybrid advancements, parental breeding value estimations, genetic recycling and hybrid prediction. Continue to drive and implement a methodical strategy for trait and germplasm structure to maximize the development of successful commercial products.

Coordinate a rigorous trialing program for evaluation and advancement of hybrid products through through a network of breeding stations and screening sites. Execute data-based decision making using appropriate experimental design and statistical methods. Contribute to phenotypic data collection and advancement decisions, and integration of innovative phenotyping platforms for the characterization and quantification of traits as appropriate.

Stay current with technology developments in pertinent sciences and introduce innovation to breeding program. Work with pre-breeders, molecular project leads, trait project leads, and genetic application leads to identify new genes of interest and drive the adoption of these traits into the germplasm for hybrid development of first-in-class commercial products. These contributions could evolve to include germplasm innovative activities across other parts of the America's tomato breeding group.

Manage and Maximize the use of all resources allocated to the breeding program(s): human, technical, budget/financial. Exert leadership across the broader HM.CLAUSE and Limagrain species and breeding community.
Strategically collaborate with key partners, internal (across HM.CLAUSE and Limagrain Vegetable Seed colleagues) and external (industry and public researchers).
Significant travel is required, both domestically and internationally (approximately 20%).
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Management of breeding assistants/associates. Coordinates with operations groups on HMC research stations in multiple domestic and international locations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
M.Sci (PhD preferred) in Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, or related field.
Minimum 4 to 5 years' experience in plant breeding, preferably with field-based research and mastery of experimental design, statistics, breeding methodologies and marker-assisted breeding approaches.
Demonstrated ability to translate phenotypic data and genomic/molecular marker information into applied breeding strategy and decision making, including experience in Genomic Selection, Genome Wide Associations, QTL mapping/deployment, phenomics, simulations and/or statistical analysis of large data sets.
Must be proficient in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
COMPETENCIES
Functional - Working knowledge and a competent grasp of the methodology, science and art of plant breeding and supporting disciplines. Advanced knowledge of assigned species in botany, biology, genetics, horticulture, germplasm, and biometrics. Advanced knowledge of the major biotic and abiotic diseases or disorders of the species and is familiar with seed production issues for assigned species. Solid understanding of the new product development process in the company. Solid understanding of the required traits for target and secondary markets. Demonstrated ability to deliver commercial varieties.

Strategic Planning and Analysis - Ability to manage multiple projects, with the result in mind. Have a good capacity for analysis and attention to detail with the ability to detect subtle differences between plants. Ability to design a breeding scheme based on multiple and complex information sources. Ability to bring new ideas to the table and make proposals.

Technical Skills - Experience with collecting and analyzing experimental data; genetic statistics and experimental design. Ability to use operational IT Breeding system, Microsoft products such as Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to effectively utilize breeding databases and analytics software. Experience with field and greenhouse work. Capacity to lead a professional team to attain objectives. Good project management skills needed. English language fluency required; fluency in Spanish a plus.
