Job Description:
Job Description As a Radiologic Technologist, you will provide
clinical services according to radiology practice standards and act
as a resource to radiography students and other technologists to
ensure optimal department functions. To help achieve our mission,
you will administer sound patient care practice according to
hospital and department policies/procedures to ensure the safety of
patients. Your ability to demonstrate radiation protection/safety
for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols
and regulatory guidelines is of vital importance. Maintaining
equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition
is expected. Completing ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and
consistent departmental operations while demonstrating the
initiative for self-development, to ensure proficiency of staff
with new technological changes, is required. Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiologic principles,
theory, anatomy and pathology processes by utilizing the most
appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
Adheres to department policies and protocols by ensuring all
examinations are optimized for interpretation. Confidently operates
radiological equipment in all care settings (i.e. fluoroscopy,
trauma, Emergency department and the Operating Room). Demonstrates
the ability and skills to assist in teaching radiography students
sound radiography principles. Administers sound patient care
practices according to hospital/department policies and procedures
to ensure the safety of patients. Communicates effectively with
patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent from
patients' and/or patients' charts to assist physicians in
optimizing the performance and interpretation of examinations.
Explains procedures to patients/families and answers any questions
to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation. Assists physicians
in performing a variety of examinations by using standard
department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile
technique. Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or
emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes
appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable
outcomes. Demonstrates radiation protection/safety for patients,
staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory
guidelines to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Maintains
exposure readings within the 'As Low As Reasonably Achievable'
limits. Demonstrates patient safety in department through the use
of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring. Reports,
documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual condition.
Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures
with collimation devices and protective shielding. Maintains
equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition.
Ensures that rooms are appropriately stocked with supplies for
procedures. Operates Imaging and other related equipment according
to manufacturers' specifications. Troubleshoots equipment
effectively and reports equipment to Biomedical Engineering and/or
vendors. Performs/recognizes the need for routine maintenance of
imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images. Completes
ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental
operations. Correctly identifies patients and their files while
ensuring a high degree of accuracy. Tracks patients according to
department procedures. Identifies errors and takes immediate action
for corrections. Participates in department/hospital performance
improvement initiatives, in-services and meetings. Demonstrates
proper technique for injection of IV contrast under the American
College of Radiology guidelines. Demonstrates the initiative to
stay abreast of technological changes and updates. Additional
Requirements Shifts typically last eight hours. Graduate of an
accredited radiology school or program. Associates Degree
preferred, but not required. Two years of combined classroom and
clinical training in radiology. Recent experience in a
hospital/healthcare environment as a Radiologic Technologist or
student. ARRT upon start BLS from AHA Upon Start Active Virginia
