Serving as a member of the Office of the Provost, provide leadership in developing and managing strategic and executive communication for the Provost and EVC with emphasis on mission-critical communications that have a campus-wide impact. Provide strategic counsel on audience analysis, message development, issue management, communication strategies and techniques. Direct and support implementation of communication strategies from the Provost to the campus and beyond. Work closely with Strategic Communications, Government Relations, and other key stakeholders on campus-wide communications. Represents the Office of the Provost on all executive level communications committees and is a member of divisional and campus-wide committees and work. Serve as primary liaison with Strategic Communications on Office of the Provost efforts of campus-wide significance.
Job Summary
The Executive Communication Specialist is responsible for communications emanating from the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. They serve as speech writer and senior communications advisor for the Provost. They work with the Office of the Provost to respond to diverse University matters through Web, electronic and print communications, as well as University and community forums. Strategize opportunities and identify events that require strategic messaging and talking points. Assist with social media strategies and shape the words and images of leadership Web sites. Provide strategic consultation on executive and crisis communications which often include highly complex and sensitive content. Provide consultation on responses to inquiries and issues, as well as potential outcomes of those responses. Responsible for writing campus announcements, correspondence and congratulatory letters, and editing other communications. They provide communications that advance the University\s mission and contribute to the state, national and global discourse in higher education and related issues.
This position will be eligible for hybrid work arrangements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:
* Bachelor\s degree and/or equivalent experience in communication, public relations or associated field.
* Senior level experience in integrated communication, media and communication techniques (print, Web, e-mail, social media, etc. for generating and distributing information, motivating target audiences, building relationships and gathering feedback) for a large, complex organization (i.e. communications, advertising, or public relations firm), preferably in higher education.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
* Expert knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices in crisis and emergency communications.
* Advanced situational analytical skills, including the knowledge to understand complex data and theoretical concepts in a wide variety of academic and business disciplines and to synthesize and distill such information into concise messaging for professional or lay audiences.
* Exceptional writing skills for both printed and spoken materials. Expert writing and editing skills, including skills to use language accurately and creatively in a variety of formal and casual registers and styles, including academic, technical, news, hypertext and marketing styles. Skills to recognize and use correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation. Excellent skills in conceptual editing, copy editing and proofreading. Advanced understanding of writing speeches for different audiences and purposes.
* Expert judgment, analytical and decision-making skills and keen political acumen. Ability to establish an environment of and maintain strict confidentiality.
* Ability to think quickly and appropriately to effectively address potentially negative, sensitive or difficult situations.
* Expert level skills in message development, audience identification and issue-management in alignment with an organization\s institutional goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:
* Advanced degree in communication, education, journalism, e-media or other relevant field.
* Experience leading a communication or public relations program for a college, university, government agency or other large, complex knowledge-based organization.
* Experience in a full-service public relations or communication service bureau.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
* Knowledge of academic policies and sensitivity to legal issues.
