Department Purpose

MENASA Student Resources provides holistic support to Middle Eastern/Southwest Asian, North African and South Asian students at UC Davis. The unit engages undergraduate students on all levels whether they are prospective students or graduating. This position provides a central hub for all resources related to the MENASA or SSWANA communities. The program coordinator will take the lead in co-creating programs that support student development and facilitate connections to staff, faculty, and campus resources. Participates and represents the unit on departmental and campus wide committees.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of the Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian (MENASA) Student Resources office, the program coordinator position will provide programming support, educational training, and work on special projects within the office. The program coordinator will create experiential programs and opportunities centering Southwest Asian, North African, and South Asian experiences to create a sense of belonging for students and build connection to UC Davis.


Salary Range

$21.22/hr. - $40.47/hr.

Minimum Education/Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Education, Higher Education, Multicultural Affairs, Counseling, Ethnic Studies, Global Studies, Religious Studies, Multidisciplinary Studies or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience in multicultural and social justice education and leadership development programs in a college or university setting.
* Experience planning all aspects of major events and educational workshops addressing major trends and issues affecting historically underrepresented, and marginalized student communities.
* Experience with social justice issues, movements and sensitivity to diversity issues and the cultural needs of university students from diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, disability, citizenship, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds and identities.
* Experience supervising student staff in educational settings.


Preferred Education/Experience:

* Demonstrated experience with student development practices in higher education and mentoring/empowerment of students.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

* Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
* Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
* Knowledge of University processes and procedures. Understanding of University rules and regulations.
* Abilities in problem identification, reasoning.
* Ability to multitask, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills and
* good interpersonal skills. Skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking.
* Knowledge of working with diverse Southwest Asian, North African, and South Asian communities.
* Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups with a wide array of identity and life experiences, including gender, disability, class, race/ethnicity, sexuality, culture, religion, etc.
* Skill in independently analyzing and researching information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to identify relevant concerns, identify patterns or tendencies, formulate logical and objective conclusions. Skill in creating a supportive, student-centered work environment where new ideas are solicited, evaluated, and implemented.
