Description
This position utilizes lifeguard training skills to ensure the
safety of patrons at our aquatic facilities by preventing and
responding to emergencies. Must be available to work weekday
mornings & participate in regular in-service trainings. Must
possess the following American Red Cross certifications at the time
of employment:
o Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR/AED
o First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)
Hourly wage: LIFEGUARD (CSS II)$15.38 per hour
Temporary Part Time, No benefits. Applicants will be screened
according to experience relevant to this position. Those most
qualified will be invited to an individual or small group
interview.
General Information:
The Fall-Spring aquatics schedule runs through May 22. Hours of
work are between Monday-Friday, 6:45-10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.-1:30
p.m., and 7:15-8:30 p.m. Staff will not be scheduled to work seven
days per week, each week. Any planned vacations must be approved by
management.
Training Dates:
Various training days will be scheduled throughout the season.
Trainings will be held weekday evenings. Examples of Duties
Responsibilities:
--- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act
immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the
event of emergency;
--- Enforce all pool rules, policies, and regulations;
--- Educate patrons and inform them of the purpose and need for
rules and regulations;
--- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the
arrival of emergency medical service;
--- Respond quickly to all emergency situations in the water or
surrounding areas;
--- Take an active role in maintaining a safe environment and take
steps to prevent accidents by eliminating potentially hazardous
conditions;
--- Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and
maintain a high standard of customer service;
--- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a
clean and safe facility.
--- Complete incident & accident reports;
--- Communicates with supervisory program staff regarding
participant behavior, injuries, and other relevant matters;
--- Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned;
--- Assures that all equipment and facilities are safely and
properly prepared and maintained;
--- Keeps work environments clean and organized;
--- Perform other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
--- Applicants must be at least 15 years of age
--- Applicants must be available to work during morning and noon
hours
--- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency
situations
--- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and
rescue techniques
--- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skill evaluation
--- Must be able to complete a list of other required online
trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not
limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols,
Mandated Reporter, Sexual Discrimination and Harassment, COVID-19
Safety Protocols, etc.
--- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships and communication with other program staff and
community members
--- Must possess the following American Red Cross certifications at
the time of employment:
o Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR/AED
o First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)

Physical/Sensory Requirements:
Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental
conditions each week. Staff are required to follow current
guidelines and requirements to keep all staff and participants
safe. The physical demands described here are representative of
those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the
essential functions of this position. This is an active position
requiring the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,
reach, stand, swim, walk frequently, lift and/or move objects from
20 lbs. to over 100 lbs.; perform simple and power grasping,
pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; verbal and hearing skills
to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual
acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done
both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100
degrees, sun, noise, dust, smoke and pollens. Potential for
exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Slip
hazards when working near water. Must be able to complete
additional trainings, including but not limited to: Concussion
Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac
Arrest, Heat Illness, COVID-19 Safety and Prevention of Harassment
and Discrimination.
