Job Summary
Within the Department of Computer Science, under general direction
and supervision, responsible for the fiscal control, accounting and
reporting of all levels of contracts and grants awarded and full
financial portfolio of Principle Investigators (PI). Works in a
highly independent capacity as 1 of 2 financial analysts within the
contracts and grants team, dealing with complex proposals and
funding sources and serves as compliance officer and resource
advisor to the faculty for pre- and post-award
processes.Responsible for the management of grants and contracts.
Provides effort and cost sharing reporting, salary cost recovery,
and analytical financial reports for a large, complex academic
department with a variety of state, private and federal projects.
Independently gathers, manages, and analyzes financial data from a
variety of revenue streams, including state and federal grants,
private grants, gifts, and other funding sources.Responsible for
budget preparation, review, fiscal analysis, effort reporting,
regulatory research compliance oversight, and forecasting of
extramural and department budgets. Monitor and maintain
departmental, research, and project accounts associated with the
annual operating budget. Departmental compliance expert on
University policy and procedure for all department and research
business processes. Independently serve as liaison and department
representative to the Office of Research, Accounting and Financial
Services, Business Contracts, and outside agencies including
Federal and private sponsoring agencies as well as prime- and
sub-contracting agencies. Provide highly complex financial and
regulatory administration and analysis of cross- disciplinary
extramural and intramural research proposals and awards.
Independently develop and manage pre- and post-award processes and
analysis for multi-investigator, multi-site, and multi-year

Bachelor's degree in related area
and/or equivalent experience/training including the completed
Research Administration Certificate (RAC) or ability to obtain
within two years from date of appointment.Experience in financial
analysis, forecasting and strategic planning to analyze
quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues and with
compiling financial data and reports.Experience in federal, state,
and private grant budget preparation based on narrative
methodological research plans and designs, analysis, and
forecasting to control complex budgets as well as with financial
reporting policies.Experience providing leadership and decision
making to solve problems and to evaluate business needs and
critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex
data and develop meaningful solutions to specific
problems.Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively
communicate and interact with Dean's Offices, campus departments,
Principal Investigators, CAO, staff, and students to ensure
compliance with UCD policy and procedures.Organizational skills to
work with changing priorities and demanding workload to
independently manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously
and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines,
including proficiency in Excel using pivot tables, advanced
functions, and formulas to solve complex problems and streamline
processes.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze
complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific
problems.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with UC Davis accounting,
purchasing, entertainment, travel, and business management
practices.Knowledge of UC Davis hiring/employment practices within
an academic department.Knowledge of generally accepted accounting
principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and

(CS) is a large and complex academic department under the College
of Engineering providing administrative and technical support for
teaching, research, instruction, and outreach to the faculty and
staff, as well as training to students within two undergraduate
programs (1250+ majors), a large Graduate Group (250+ majors), and
a large cohort of major and non-major students passing through CS
courses each year (12,500 students/ 50,000 SCH). The nature of CS's
research/discipline is diverse and allows for the opportunity for
collaboration across the campus, International Labs, and across the
world. CS currently has 39 faculty and is expecting continued
growth in the next several years. We employ temporary instructors
throughout the year as well. We also employ TAs, GSRs, Readers, and
Academic Federation titles. HR/Payroll issues are facilitated
through the Campus Academic Unit Shared Service Center. Purchasing
and Accounts Payable responsibilities are facilitated through the
College of Engineering Purchasing Shared Service Unit. Department
expenditures are -$20M annually.Position Information
